Ufa State Institute Of Arts

Ufa State Institute of Arts was created
in 1968.
Currently at the Institute there are three departments: Music, Theatre and Art, and also a secondary special musical school-lyceum. At these departments the teaching is conducted in the following trades: Instrumental Performance (piano, stringed and wind instruments, folk instruments including folk Bashkir); vocal art, conducting, composition, music study, sound directing, actor's art, painting, sculpture, and design.
In 1995-96 the number of the students was 601,79 of which are part-time students.

During the first year of existence the main part of the faculty staff consisted of the alumni from the Moscow Institute named after Gnesinykh, Moscow Institute named after Surikov, Leningrad Institute of Arts named after Repin. Now the faculty of the Institute includes 131 teachers. Among them there are 19 professors, 1 Doctor and 17 Candidates of Science, 78 Associate Professors, 2 national actors of the USSR, 4 national actors of Russian Federation, 1 national artist of the USSR, 15 honoured actors of the Republic of Bashkortostan and others.
At the Institute work is being carried out on the optimization of the teaching process and the equipping of the curriculum with the new content. These programs are carried out taking into consideration the national-cultural peculiarities and demands of the Republic specialists.
The teachers of the Institute provide a wide range of methodical assistance to the teachers of secondary special educational institutions and children's musical schools. This includes new courses in improving qualification, outreach presentations, concerts, open classes of the teachers of the Institute, conducting of different, joint publications of the teaching-methodical brochures, and publication of the textbooks.
Hign prizes have been won by the graduates of the Institute of Arts at different competitions, festivals of the world and all-Russian levels testify to the quality of the students' training. 13 laureates of international competitions have been awarded the «World Cup» in Washington, D.C., «National Cup» in France, «Days of Harmonica» in Germany, the Competition of Vocalists in Barcelona and other competitions.

The graduates of the Department of Arts successfully exhibited their works in Austria, France, England, Canada and Italy.
Today more than 90% of the actors of the seven drama theaters of the Republic are alumni of the Theater Department.
At the Institute a long-term program «Shakhes» («Personality») is carried out, approved by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. In the program, alongside with the further development of the existing specialities, the opening of the new perspective for the Republic directions training of specialists for art and culture is planning.

Training of the specialists on the traditional performance (kurai, dumbyra, kubyz, violin and others) began for the first time with the creation in 1989 the Department of Bashkir Music, as well as the head of the folklore groups. In 1996-97 the Bashkir Department of Musicologists' training will be opened.
In 1994 the recruitment on the trade «Directing of the Stage and Mass Performances» was carried out. Teaching of sound directors for the work on television is being conducted on the basis of self-funded agreement. A new direction at the Art Department was opened in 1995: there's begun the training of the sculptors, and a year before there had been recruited a course on design.

The institute takes part directly in the opening of new drama theaters in the Republic. In 1989 there was opened the Republican Theater for Young Spectators, then, new Tatar theaters in the cities of Ufa and Tuimazy. In this connection the Ufa State Institute of Arts began the training of the actors with the objective assignment for these theaters.
In 1993 at the Institute was opened a graduate school- internship in the area of Vocal Skills and Instrumental Performance. The questions of the development of Bashkir Professional Art and Folk Creative Activities are of the most importance.
In 1995 the workshop of Russian Academy of Fine Arts was opened under the direction of National Painter of the USSR, the laureate of the Prize named after S. Yulayev, A.Lutfullin.
At the Institute there's being conducted an active work on the equipping the structural subunits with the computer facilities. At present, the library of the Institute is equipped with it. The staff of the library works on the creation of electronic catalogue.
The Institute has a dormitory, all out-of-city students are provided with the places to live.
