
Bashkir State Pedagogical Institute
was opened in 1967 and inherited the pedagogical institution traditions,
that had been in place earlier in the Republic. In 1976 BSPI was granted
the status of the Institution of the first rating.

Currently the Institute educates more than 6 thousand students on 19 trades at 9 Departments: Physics and Mathematics, History, Nature and Geography, Foreign Languages, Design, Pedagogy and Psychology (Pre-School and Elementary Education), Physical Training, Philology with Tatar Philology branch, Bashkir Philology. The University also has a branch in the town of Sibai.
48 Chairs employ 523 teachers more than half of which have scientific degrees, with 26 Doctors and 234 Candidates of Sciences on staff. A dissertation council at the Institute specializes in «General Pedagogy».

Scientific output of the Institute is extremely high. New textbooks have been created, which contribute to creative thinking in the studying process. At the Institute the textbooks «Physical Geography» for grades 6 and 8, «Inorganic Chemistry» for grades 8 and 9, were edited and won the first place at the All-Union competition and were recommended as standard textbooks for the schools of the country. Students take part in the academic life of the Institute alongside with the teachers, publishing term and diploma projects.
Training of the foreign students is conducted at the Institute mainly for the citizens of Turkey. They study at the Departments of Bashkir and Tatar Philology, and at the Physics and Mathematics Department.

Today the Institute has 6 study halls, where there are 60 study rooms and laboratories equipped with modern facilities, computing and audio-visual equipment. The library has holdings of a half a million volumes and several reading halls.
Outside the city agrobiostation, computing center, scientific research center, zoomorphological museum, an office of complex usage of technical means of teaching, and a printing shop have been established.
80 percent of the students of the Institute are rural residents, and consequently much attention is paid to the condition of the dormitories. The Institute has 6 well-equipped buildings with different student services, and a sanatorium which has the most up-to-date medical equipment.

At the Department of the Theory and History of World Culture there are work groups of folk choreography, ball and vaudeville dances, modern plastic arts, chorus and vocal singing, journalism and Bashkir Folklore.
The different aspects of student
life are covered in a large circulation newspaper «Auditoria». Much attention
is paid to the development of sports, with 3 gymnasium sand a swimming
pool, and two sport-health camps, with different sections on different
sports functioning throughout the year.
